"Some of the merino genetics have come via Australia but most evolved from the original traditional lines from which the Australian merino was developed.”

HISTORY
The Russians introduced wool sheep and created the Kyrgyz Finewool (Merino).
The sheep population slowly rose to 3 million by 1940 and had reached 8–10 million in the late 1980s.
The percentage of fine wool increased from 73% of all wool produced in 1981 to 95 % in 1990.
Later, the Australian Merino was imported to cross-breed with Kyrgyz Merino which created one of the finest wool available today in the wool market.
